Uasin Gishu Governor, H.E Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, on Thursday attended the induction course for Eldoret City Board Members — a programme aimed at strengthening leadership, governance, and institutional frameworks within the City.
The induction, now drawing to a close, brought together key County officials and Board Members to align policy direction, clarify institutional mandates, and sharpen strategic priorities for effective urban management. Governor Bii emphasized the importance of laying a firm foundation to enable Eldoret City to thrive and meet the expectations of its residents.
“I am delighted that you have been undergoing training since Monday and are set to conclude tomorrow. Make deliberate efforts to leave a lasting mark on development and establish clear strategies to position Eldoret City as an attractive destination for investors and development partners,” the Governor stated.
He further called on the Board to uphold accountability in the management of resources allocated to the City and to prioritize structured planning, particularly in addressing congestion within the Central Business District (CBD).
“Boda boda operators and matatus are concentrated within the CBD. Develop proper plans and practical strategies to enable them conduct their businesses efficiently while at the same time reducing congestion in the City,” he added.
County Secretary Mr. Philip Meli challenged the Board to redefine the image of Eldoret through impactful service delivery and prudent management of devolved functions. He reiterated that transparent governance, professional execution of duties, and people-centered development remain central to achieving sustainable urban growth.
The induction course is expected to equip members with the knowledge and tools necessary to steer Eldoret toward becoming a model city nationally and regionally.
