The City Manager of Eldoret, Ms. Elzeba Busienei, today held an in-depth consultative meeting with board members of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) – Uasin Gishu Chapter. The meeting, held at the City Boardroom, was led by KNCCI Vice Chairperson Mr. Dan Melly.

Ms. Busienei commended the KNCCI for its commitment to partnering with the city to create a thriving business environment.

“Your commitment to ensuring our partnership provides security for the business community and a conducive working environment will help create a vibrant 24-hour economy,” she stated. “Eldoret is the only city in Kenya with significant room for expansion in all directions,” she added.

The City Manager emphasized the importance of KNCCI recommending investors and donors to the City of Eldoret, noting that such support would accelerate economic growth and development in the region.

KNCCI Vice Chairperson Mr. Dan Melly praised the city administration for installing street lights, which have helped reduce road congestion. He called for more street lighting and enhanced security measures within the Central Business District (CBD) to support the goal of a 24-hour economy.

Mr. Melly also stressed the need for structured planning to address urban congestion.

“There’s a need for dialogue with members of all transport sector SACCOs operating in the city to adopt modern buses. This would help ease traffic, especially during rush hours on routes to Langas and Kimumu, which are often jammed. With advancements in the transport sector, this issue can be resolved,” he said.

Mr. Serem, a KNCCI board member, called for the full implementation of the Eldoret Spatial Plan to facilitate proper zoning and reduce conflicts within the CBD.

In response, Ms. Busienei acknowledged the challenges currently facing the city but described them as stepping stones towards progress. She reaffirmed her commitment to transforming Eldoret into a larger, greener, and more efficient urban center.

Earlier on the Manager had a discussion with the Director Public works Benjamin Kirongo on the upcoming Kenya Urban Support Program 2 and the areas of concern within the CBD.
